It was three years ago when he began serving in that role to help launch the new campus and assemble a staff. But after a great deal of prayer, Rusty has chosen to pursue a Senior Ministry at a smaller church somewhere. Preaching is a love that he’s always had, but he feels like he’s ready to take it to a new level. So, Sloane’s request to be baptized into Christ right there in the Gulf of Mexico didn’t seem odd—it seemed appropriate. It was a powerful witness to many and Sloane’s tears were a reminder to me of her sincerity and commitment. I first met Francene Cucinello six years ago when I was a guest on her show to discuss the release of the movie, “The Passion of the Christ.” The time on the show went well, and a friendship was formed. She had a godly upbringing by a mom who is a true servant. After the funeral service on Monday, Margaret Cucinello stood for hours, greeting every person who wanted to share a “Francene” story or an encouraging word with her. As I shared in a recent sermon Beth’s father, Bob Bowman, was diagnosed with cancer and passed away two weeks later. We were in Israel at the time and said our goodbyes over a cell phone. I’ve never seen an individual go down physically as quickly as he did. Labor Day ended up being a great time of fellowship for our community. I’d never been to a FamilyPalooza. This was the second year of this incredible outreach event. While it’s difficult to count a moving target, our best guesstimate would be around 9-10,000 people! Hats off to the Children’s ministry who was in charge of the event. Wise decision to move to a larger parking lot! But like every sizable event at Southeast it ends up being a team effort with a lot of departments: Facility Care, Events, Volunteer Service Ministries, Security, Guest Services and plenty of others!
