I pledge allegiance…
Saturday at high noon will be the annual Louisville Cardinals vs. Kentucky Wildcats Football game. It’s an opportunity for fans to wear their colors and cheer for their favorite. If you don’t live in this area then you may not understand. But most locales have some rivalry that creates excitement and actually runs the risk of polarizing families and friends. This one is ours.
If you’ve been around me very much you know that I’m a Cardinal fan. Thirty minutes with me and I guarantee the topic will surface and you’d be aware of my true colors.
But this weekend’s game got me thinking... how long would it take a complete stranger to learn or observe that I’m a Christ follower? 30 minutes? 30 days?
Jesus said in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
In other words, Christ is saying, how you love others, reveals what team you are on and where your allegiance lies. When you are watching the game and you see video shots of the fans, ask yourself this question, “Are you as proud that you are a Christian as you are of the college for whom you cheer?”
Show somebody Christ this Saturday.

Hi Dave,
You always have a Bible verse to relate to every day living. I think you should put a Bible verse out weekly. Have a great one!

Wonderful analogy. I had been lost for many years and then I was introduced to Christ again thru Southeast and it is the best thing that has ever happen to me. Since I began attending Southeast I have only missed a couple of Sundays and when that happens the coming week is never quite the same. Attending Southeast and learning more about God is the ‘fuel’ that drives my brain and body. That may seem a little ‘wacky’, but I promise I am lost without it.

Great bible verse! I am a new nurse, fresh out of Nursing school. My desire is to show Christ’s love in the way I care for others. I didnt return to school for the money, or for the job security, but to be able to touch the lives of those in need, and to care for the sick. I want to be a walking example of Christ and the love He has for all of us. I pray that my patients can see that in me.

This is not directly related to your blog but I did enjoy your writing. I saw you on TBN last week and it brought back lots of memories.
I attended Westside Christian Church in Columbia, Missouri, thirty six years ago when your father was pastor. And you and your brother were very young…I think you had given up picking your noses in public by then!
As I watched and listened to you talk, I could see both your mom and dad in you. Say hello to them for me. What a great heritage you have and I’m so happy to see you passing it on to thousands.
